La G99 M5 Touring est la troisième M5 Touring que BMW ait jamais construite, après l'E34 et l'E61 à moteur V10. Le V8 biturbo de 4,4 litres travaille avec un moteur électrique pour 727 ps et 1 000 Nm via le M xDrive aux quatre roues. BMW a monté pour la première fois une direction des roues arrière active sur une M5, rendant la voiture plus agile à basse vitesse et plus stable à vitesse élevée Anecdote: la G99 est la première M5 Touring jamais vendue aux États-Unis.
