Moteur : 3.7L Inline-Six Origine : USA This 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV is a particularly elegant example of one of the most important models in Aston Martin?s history. Presented in 1958, the DB4 marked the beginning of a new era for the marque, combining Tadek Marek?s newly developed 3.7-litre straight-six engine with lightweight Superleggera coachwork designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. Chassis DB4/780/L was produced as a left-hand-drive Series IV and delivered new to J.S. Inskip, Aston Martin?s distributor in the United States. According to its original factory documentation, the car was supplied in California Sage with a Fawn Connolly leather interior and equipped with two wing mirrors. Its first recorded owner was Edward R. Nichold of Barnardsville, New Jersey, while the Aston Martin Owners Club Register later records D.E. Harvey as a subsequent owner in the United States. The Series IV represents one of the most recognisable evolutions of the DB4. Produced between September 1961 and October 1962, it introduced a shallower bonnet air intake, recessed rear lamps and the distinctive grille featuring seven vertical bars, while retaining the shorter and more sporting proportions of the earlier DB4s. At the heart of the car remains its matching-numbers 3.7-litre straight-six engine, number 370/806. Designed by Tadek Marek and developed from Aston Martin?s competition experience, the twin-cam engine was one of the defining technical features of the DB4 and helped establish the mechanical architecture that would continue through the DB5 and DB6. The DB4 was also the first production Aston Martin to use Touring?s celebrated Superleggera construction method, with hand-formed aluminium body panels supported by a lightweight tubular structure. Although designed in Italy, the bodies were built under licence at Aston Martin?s Newport Pagnell works by some of the finest craftsmen of the period, giving the DB4 its unique combination of Italian elegance and unmistakably British character. Today, DB4/780/L is registered on Belgian papers and remains matching numbers. The odometer currently displays approximately 12,200 miles. With its documented early history, desirable left-hand-drive configuration and matching-numbers drivetrain, this Series IV DB4 represents a significant example of the model that laid the foundations for Aston Martin?s most celebrated grand tourers of the 1960s.
